Circulation Services: Borrow, Renew, Return

Borrow

College of Charleston students, whether undergraduate, continuing education and graduate students who are currently enrolled in one or more courses and who have a valid College of Charleston ID may borrow circulating materials. Persons taking non-credit continuing education courses do not have borrowing privileges.  Students may borrow circulating material during the summer and between the fall and spring semester if they have not graduated and if they present an identification card from the previous semester.

Renew

Most items charged out to a patron may be renewed two additional times unless another user has placed a hold on it, it's a reserve item or browsing book. Patrons may renew materials either on the phone or at the Circulation desk. If books are overdue, the patron must return the book and pay all fines before renewing the book(s). Student should renew books to avoid fines and the loss of borrowing privileges.

Using the “My Library Account” link borrowers may use their name and Campuswide ID number to check their account and renew books that are not overdue. They may also renew by phone or in person.

Return

To avoid fines, it's very important to renew or return items before they are due. You may return checked out library materials at the following locations:

  • Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of Addlestone Library
  • Book drop outside Addlestone Library's Rivers Green entrance
  • Book drop in the Addlestone Library Parking Lot off Pitt Street

Self Checkout

There is a self-checkout station located on the second floor near the rotunda.  With your CofC ID card, you may checkout your own books.  Please see the Circulation desk if you encounter any issues using this station.

iPads

Students and faculty will check out the iPads from the Library Circulation desk.  It is our hope that the use of iPads in the curriculum will:

  • Promote student engagement in the classroom, the lab, or in the field
  • Assist small group collaboration in idea creation and sharing as well as information search, analysis, and visual representation
  • Provide access to and manipulation of digital content
  • Promote the innovative use of this technology.

Users are responsible for any and all damage.

Fines are $10 per day for each day they are overdue.
