Instructions

FIRST THING: Divide up into teams of  2-3 people.  You will complete this exercise as part of a team effort.

In today's session you will identify a specific research topic (in your teams), and you will use today's activity to break that research topic into more specific concepts and keywords to more effectively research it.  You will then learn how to find two types of library sources for that topic.

Part 1: Searching Discover Search and a Database

  • Brief information on how to start searching for a book and for an article using library tools.

Part 2: Concept Mapping

  • Use the concept map on the Google Doc to write down your main topic and generate 3 concepts based on your main topic, and then generate 3 keywords for each concept.
  • Record your concepts and keywords on your Google Doc

Part 3: Find 1 Book & 1 Article

  • Using these generated keywords, choose words (including the main topic) from your concept map to use for your source search.
    • Find a relevant book using the Discover Search on the library homepage (enter information on the Google Docs worksheet)
    • Find a relevant article using  PsycInfo.  (enter information on the Google Docs worksheet)
