Crime and Punishment in America

How to Read and Write Like a Historian

Spotlight: The Elements of Style

Course Description

This is the capstone research seminar for history majors. The primary objective of the course is to produce an original, carefully researched, and well written ~25-30 page research paper. The first several weeks of the semester will be used to explore examples of original research, thoughtful historical analysis, and solid writing. The course is loosely focused on Crime and Punishment in America, but paper topics may only be tangentially related to that theme.

Library and Archival Instruction Goals

By the end of library information and archival literacy sessions students will have the skills to identify contextually appropriate tools and sources to answer research questions.
