Searching Notes

Be Conscious of Keywords:

  • What is the environmental variable – does it have more than one name, especially chemicals? – synonyms (e.g Mercury has the chemical symbol ‘Hg’)
  • Does the topic involve a species? – Use common and scientific names as synonyms in a search. Wikipedia is good for finding the scientific (Latin) name.
  • What is the appropriate name of the outcome in humans? Poisoning, toxicity, allergy, neurological disorder, a specific named disease (asthma, bacterial infection, cancer, etc.)? Does it have synonyms? May need to ascertain this from initial results.
