How to cut and paste your concept map

This activity requires students to take a screen shot of their concept map to include in their Google Docs. 

Works for Macs and PCs.

[Note: Students need to sign into their Google Docs to add an image.]

  1. After making the Mindmap, hold your mouse over the map and right-click. 
  2. Save the image on the desktop.
  3. On the Google Doc, select "Insert" then "Image" (along the top bar). Select the saved image.

Instructions

In today's session, you will be working in a group to generate concept maps (for effective search strategies) and find two types of sources.

The general topic for today's session is: "Mars"

Part 1: Concept Mapping

  • Take the general topic and generate at least 3 subtopics with associated keywords
  • Use texttomindmap.com to generate your concept map
  • After you are done, copy + paste your concept map into your group Google Doc, or save it as a PDF so that you can print it.

Part 2: Find 1 Book & 1 Article

  • As a group, select one subtopic that you will use for your search. Note this subtopic and the associated keywords on your Google Doc.
  • Find a relevant article using ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE (enter information on the Google Docs worksheet)
  • Find a relevant book using the Discover Search on the library homepage (enter information on the Google Docs worksheet)

Part 3: Print & Share

  • Groups will share their concept maps & research experiences with the class

Part 4: Library Info. & Feedback

  • Addlestone Library Handout shared with class
  • Quick feedback form
