Experiential Learning with the College Libraries

One of the strategies enlisted to accomplish the pillar of academic distinction in the College of Charleston's current strategic plan is to "make experiential learning a differentiator of the College of Charleston educational experience." Experiential learning is a process through which students develop knowledge, skills, and values from direct experiences outside a traditional academic setting. Well-planned, supervised, and assessed experiential learning programs can stimulate academic inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, leadership, and other professional skills (Career Center).

In the College Libraries, we have long supported and provided opportunities for students to build general and specialized skills to supplement their academic work, research, and interests. Through undergraduate employment, graduate assistantships, and internship opportunities, students are able to engage with the College and larger Charleston communities, explore future career pathways, and develop a network of individuals to support their success.
