This guide gives you step-by-step instructions on how to use the Reading List tool.

Physical Course Reserves

To request a hardcopy/physical reserve item, use our new Reading Lists Tool or fill out a Physical Reserve Request Form for each applicable course. For Fall 2021, we must receive your reserve request by August 15 in order to have them processed by August 24 for the start of classes. All requests made after August 15 will be processed as quickly as possible, but may not be ready at the beginning of the term.

Removing Items from Physical Reserve

For Fall 2021, if you previously had materials on reserve and DO NOT need any physical course reserves for the upcoming semester, please fill out this brief form so we know what to do with the material(s). If we do not receive a response to this form or a request through the new Physical Reserve Request Form (linked below) by August 30, personal materials will be returned to departmental mailboxes via campus mail and library materials will be reshelved.

Please note the following:

  • If you do not need to make any changes to your Spring 2020 reserves, you only need to provide the course and contact information (the first two pages of the form).
  • If you would like to put a personal copy of material on reserve, it should be dropped off at the Access and Instruction Desk for processing after the reading list is sent to the library for review. Select “Library Use Only” if the item should not leave the library during the checkout period.
  • For Multi-Day Reserve requests, please send an email to library@cofc.edu about the desired loan period after sending the list to the library for review.
Using the Reading List Tool for Physical Reserves (see Tag Definitions tab)

Professors using the Reading List Tool to request physical materials must use Tags to indicate the desire for these items to be processed and pulled for reserves. Reserve items can be checked out from the Reserve collection for a limited amount of time. Add physical library material, or a personal copy, then select the tag that corresponds with desired checkout period and any other tags that may apply. Tags are visible to students on their Reading List (except the Personal Copy tag). You can find step by step instructions for adding material and tags in the new Reading Lists Tool here.
